United States Army National Guard.
Hooah Boys. This upcoming month of September I will be enlisting in the Army National Guard. Following my senior year of high school, I'll head to basic training and AIT to become a 25 Bravo (computer information specialist)... from there I will train monthly with my unit, unless I am deployed somewhere if needed for state or federal assistance (natural disasters, iraq, etc).
It's gonna be one hell of a ride. |

RE: United States Army National Guard.
25 Bravo requires a few things. on your ASVAB (military issued test you take as a junior in high school normally) you have to get a line score in the technical area (it's somewhat confusing) of a 100. I blew that away. the army requires a score of 31 to enlist. I got a 71. 100 is the best you can do, so I did pretty well. beat my classmates anyway.
anyhow, past the scoring level, you need a clean record, as I will be acquiring a Department of Defense "secret" or "top secret" security clearance level... which not only sounds bad ass, but allows me to work on machines and data that is sensitive. You obviously have to pass medical standards, size standards, blah blah... but thats all simple. then you enlist at MEPS... go to Basic (though I will be on delayed entry while still in high school) and then your AIT (a-school) to be trained in your field. then you go back home (in the national guard) and are attached to a unit which you train with 1 weekend a month, and 2 weeks during the summer. That is assuming I don't get deployed. chances are I may, however with a presidential change coming up soon, and me not going to basic/AIT until long after they are in office... anything could happen. The Guard's GI Bill will cover my college costs... alongside the pay I get for doing drills. and thank you all for your support. |

RE: United States Army National Guard.
I'd taken my ASVAB my junior year of High School for the Airforce. I scored for a Crew Chief, which means I would have had my own fleet of F16's to maintain and a group of 20 or so people to help me do that. Everything was going great until I went to get my physical. Turns out I have Asthma. I'd gone 18 years without knowing it!

RE: United States Army National Guard.
They had us run 5 miles which has never been a real problem before but I guess I was wheezing afterwards. It's not full fledged asthma. It only kicks in when I've been doing a lot of physical activity.
