Does anyone know how people set up online radio stations?
I was contemplating possibly doing one, doubt I will, but i'm just curious. Can anyone shed light?
Thanks.
winamp + shoutcast

winamp is an uber cool media player, shoutcast is a broadcast server that your listeners connect to.

You can get a plugin for winamp that streams what your playing to shoutcast and adds features to use your microphone like a true DJ.

with some other plugins and some coding here and there you can set up requests and let your station go automated.
Sounds a simple enough concept.
It just occured to me that even stations like Kerrang play indie music, but not the wider reaches of rock, and Heart, which is music 'Variety' isn't variety at all, got me thinking.
we were thinking of doing Byteradio, but they say it would have taken up most of the badwidth or something..
Hmmm, if you ever did, i'd be more than happy to DJ haha Big Grin
if your looking for new stations to listen to you can go on shoutcast.com and search for another station broadcasting.
lol, will you need a server to host shoutcast and that winamp or any of em then? Maybe a station could have one or more DJs from different locations but connecting to the same server to djing the stuff. But this sounds really cool. It's such a shame my mic ain't working.
you can rent shoutcast servers and broadcasting ones but online radio will soon turn expensive...

If you do it from home, yeah bandwidth is a problem.

But if you get past all this, i'd use SAM3 Broadcaster, i loved it when i used to use it.
i'll set you up a cheap shoutcast server for a small fee Wink
just set a quick one up for the luls =]

open up windows media -> file -> open url... -> type in http://goughy000.com:8000/ -> OK
